Reality Series Survivor Is Spawning an Animated Movie Featuring Animal Contestants

Long-running reality TV show Survivor is getting an animated adaptation featuring a cast of contestants plucked from throughout the animal kingdom, reports Variety.

In collaboration with Survivor production company CBS, Paramount Animation is currently developing the project as a big-screen comedy “[s]et on a remote and mystical island, [where] animals from all around the globe compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned the sole Survivor.” Series host Jeff Probst is an executive producer.

“Setting it in the world of animals gives us a whole new playground,” said Probst in a video published on social media today.“It’s still everything we love about Survivor – big personalities, funny characters, surprising alliances, competition, chaos, and of course a lot of heart – but this time, the players aren’t humans. Imagine a big, fun, animated comedy about Survivor, in the animal kingdom.”

Based on a 1997 show called Expedition Robinson, Survivor first aired in the US in 2000. A juggernaut of reality TV, the show was renewed for its 51st season earlier this year.

No additional information was confirmed regarding the film, with zero hints dropped pertaining to cast, a director, or a writer. For further details on the plot, it appears we’ll need to wait until the scribe has spoken.
